Strong organisations are built on more than strategy or individual leadership talent. Their real strength lies in alignment — between those responsible for governance and those responsible for execution. A board that functions well is powerful. Aligned boards make better decisions

Effective boards draw strength from diverse perspectives, experience and judgement. Healthy debate, challenge and questioning are signs of a well-functioning board. However, the real test of effectiveness comes after decisions are made — when directors are aligned in supporting agreed outcomes.
