ALIGN strategy and action at the executive level

A practical framework to strengthen alignment, decision quality and follow-through at the executive level
Older man with glasses and a gray beard sits at a desk in a bright office, arms crossed, smiling slightly.

Executive forum effectiveness framework

Effective executive forums are built with intent. They rely on clarity of purpose, strong group norms and a consistent focus on how the forum operates as a decision-making body. Without this, attention often drifts to individual performance or short-term outputs, rather than the quality of discussion, alignment and follow-through that underpin long-term effectiveness.

Our Executive Forum Effectiveness Reviews take a whole-of-forum view. Using the ALIGN framework, we examine how the group works together to set priorities, test thinking, make decisions and drive execution. The focus is on the collective disciplines that enable the forum to operate with cohesion, maintain strategic focus and convert intent into tangible outcomes.

Introducing the ALIGN Framework

Our Executive Forum Effectiveness Reviews are built on the ALIGN framework, a contemporary model that defines what effective leadership teams consistently demonstrate in practice.

ALIGN reflects five interrelated components of collective leadership effectiveness:

Assesses whether the forum has a clearly defined purpose, mandate and decision authority, with clarity on what sits within its remit and what does not.

Evaluates how discussions are structured and led, including the quality of challenge, participation and focus on clear, timely decisions.

Assesses whether information is forward-looking, prioritised and decision-useful, with options, risks and trade-offs clearly articulated.

Evaluates how decisions are owned, tracked and implemented, including clarity of accountability and the discipline with which decisions are followed through beyond the meeting.

Assesses whether the forum delivers tangible outcomes, resolves issues and contributes to organisational performance and momentum.

Together, these components provide a balanced view of how leadership team members shape direction, work together and translate strategy into impact.

Discuss a leadership team effectiveness review

If your board or CEO would value a clearer, evidence-based view of how the leadership team is functioning — and where improvement would make the greatest difference — we would welcome the opportunity to talk.
